Before the container arrives

Make a keep, family, donate, recycle, and dispose plan for each room. Check drawers, boxes, pockets, cabinets, and storage areas for personal items before loading.
Stage the disposal pile near the planned drop while keeping hallways, sidewalks, driveways, and lawn access clear. Ask the hauler about boards under the rails.
Load heavy items flat first, then break down bed frames, tables, shelving, and other bulky furniture. Fill open spaces without raising the load above the top rail.
Keep paint, fuel, tires, batteries, propane, refrigerant appliances, electronics, and chemicals out. Confirm uncertain items with the hauler before loading.
Set pickup after the last room and sweep are finished. If the sale, move, or family schedule changes, ask early about extra days or a container swap.
